One Piece Anime Goes on Hiatus Until 2027 — Episode 1180 Ends 2026 Broadcast

The wait for the next One Piece anime episode has officially begun. The One Piece anime has finished its 2026 television run with Episode 1180, and fans will have to wait until 2027 for the next new episode. Episode 1180 aired in Japan on September 27 and became the final One Piece TV broadcast of the year. The official One Piece account confirmed that the next episode will air in 2027, although an exact return date has not yet been announced. Why is One Piece taking a break? The break is connected to a new production approach introduced with the Elbaph Arc. Starting in 2026, the anime moved toward a maximum of 26 episodes per year and eliminated recap episodes. The production team explained that the goal is to bring the anime closer to the manga's pacing, with roughly one manga chapter being adapted into one anime episode. According to Toei Animation producer Ryuta Koike, the change is intended to strengthen production as One Piece moves deeper into the core parts of its story and deliver the story in a more concentrated way. Episode 1180 leaves fans waiting The timing of the break is especially notable because the anime is currently in the Elbaph Arc, one of the major storylines of the final saga. Episode 1180 aired on September 27, meaning there will be no new weekly episodes for the rest of 2026. The official announcement has not yet given a specific 2027 premiere date. But One Piece is not slowing down Even while the TV anime is taking a break, the franchise already has major projects planned. The official One Piece website has confirmed ONE PIECE FILM GOD VALLEY for summer 2027. Another movie, ONE PIECE FILM BAAD, is scheduled for 2029. GOD VALLEY is particularly significant because it is scheduled for the manga's 30th anniversary year. So while fans may have to wait for Episode 1181, the One Piece franchise has plenty planned for the next few years. What happens next? For now, the situation is simple: Episode 1180 — Final TV episode of 2026 Episode 1181 — Coming in 2027 Exact return date — Not announced yet ONE PIECE FILM GOD VALLEY — Summer 2027 ONE PIECE FILM BAAD — 2029 The Straw Hats aren't going anywhere. The anime is simply taking a longer pause as the series enters one of its most important stages.
